Cocaine is extracted from the leaves of the cocaine plant (Erythroxylum coca). It thrives primarily in the Andes of Colombia, Bolivia, and Peru at altitudes of 600 to 1000 meters. The leaves contain about one percent of the alkaloids known as cocaine.

In the Andes and the Amazon region, coca has retained an important place in folk medicine. It is used for all types of pain, neuralgia, rheumatism, colds, flu, indigestion, constipation, colic, upset stomach, altitude sickness, fatigue, weakness, infertility (with 800 μg of folate), and easier childbirth.

Coca is prescribed for diabetes, as an appetite suppressant, for altitude sickness, as a tonic, and to stabilize the gastrointestinal tract, e.g., for diarrhea. For bronchitis, cancer, neuralgia, insomnia, overwork, nervousness, ADHD, Parkinson's disease, PMS, fibromyalgia, scoliosis, mental agitation, sarcoidosis, migraines, bladder, etc. Cocaine is often used for prostate, epilepsy, COPD, rheumatic complaints, asthma, and coughs.

In most cases, it has a psychological and physical strengthening effect, relieves pain, suppresses appetite, and regulates blood sugar levels.
